新作FPS「Insurgency: Sandstorm」の最新情報が公開。主人公はクルド人の女性戦士

　New World Interactiveの新作FPS「Insurgency: Sandstorm」（PC/MAC/PlayStation 4/Xbox One）の最新情報とスクリーンショットが，パブリッシャであるFocus Home Interactiveが主催したイベント「What’s Next de Focus?」で公開された。

　2007年に「Half-Life 2」のMODとしてリリースされ，現在までに230万本というヒットになったといわれるゲームを，最新の「UnrealEngine 4」を使用したスタンドアロンのタイトルとしてリメイクした本作。MOD版の，最大4人のプレイヤーによるCo-opモードを進歩させたシングルプレイモードを実装し，2003年のイラク戦争に始まる現代の中東情勢という難しいテーマに果敢に挑んだ作品だ。

　主人公となるのはシリア北部で暮らしていたクルド人の女性で，妹が性奴隷としてテロ組織に誘拐されたことから，戦士として戦っていくことになる。彼女の仲間になるのは，同じく奴隷として拉致されながらも奇跡的に脱出に成功した同郷の女性と，軍籍を捨ててシリア解放運動に参加したベテランのアメリカ兵，そして正義感に燃えてはいるが，戦闘経験に乏しい民間のフランス人で，アメリカ兵以外のキャラクターが普通の市民であるところにリアリティが感じられる。

　マルチプレイモードについては，かなりのコアプレイヤー向けだったMOD版の雰囲気を踏襲しており，4つの目標を制圧しようとする攻撃側に対し，防御側は，弾丸などのリソースが少ない中で，攻撃側の目標達成を阻止しなくてはならないという非対称型の「Push」モードがこちらにも用意される。コミュニティからはe-Sports向けにも作ってほしいという熱烈な要望があるそうで，5人対5人のチームデスマッチなども用意されるという。また，大人数での対戦も考えているとのことで，全体として，かなりボリューム感のある本格的なパッケージになりそうだ。

　「Insurgency: Sandstorm」は当初，2017年中のリリースがアナウンスされていたが，現在は発売日未定に変更されており，それがちょっと気になるところ。ただ，年内中にα版は公開できそうだという。
